Master Sheng Yen, the renowned founder of Dharma Drum Mountain, was actually quite naughty in his childhood. He even cut classes. His childhood was full of interesting events and embarrassing experiences. These childhood memories and realizations, however, served as a source to enrich the Master’s vision and shape his personality later as an adult, with a strong character to be able to brace for setbacks and brave up to the challenges of overcoming obstacles.
We have produced a series of animations, featuring Master Sheng Yen’s fascinating childhood stories, to give people a peak into his innocent childhood and the process of his growth, developing in spirituality. In the first episode, we will share the Master’s memory of a lunar New Year, when his family couldn’t afford to buy new clothes for him, prompting him to realize that he could be as happy, joyful, and content.
