Once named a spiritual navigator, Master Sheng Yen had cultivated a fertile ground for the Three-fold Education—Extensive Academic Education, Extensive Public Buddhist Education, and Extensive Social Care Education—on the basis of Protecting the Spiritual Environment in the spirit of Chan Buddhism. In addition, he promoted the Four Kinds of Environmentalism and launched the Six Ethics of the Mind movement to meet the needs of modern society, as a way to care for society, and endeavored to uplift the character of humanity through education, in hope of purifying society and enhancing world peace.
