農禪寺師徒故事(九)入慈悲門
In its early days, Nung Chan Monastery was right next to an immense bamboo grove without any wall to separate it from the outside. In order to facilitate devotees to more concentrate on their practice, Master Sheng Yen adopted a disciple’s suggestion and constructed the main entrance (“sanmen”), the outer wall, and the spirit screen. He named the main gate “The Way to Compassion,” signifying welcoming more people to the embrace of Guanyin Bodhisattva, encouraging them to develop the Bodhi-mind and practice the bodhisattva path.
